Easy Gluten-Free Party Recipes

We've got six easy to make gluten-free desserts that will please both the kids and parents! One of the greatest challenges modern day parents face when planning their child's birthday party is with the menu. Between allergies and dietary constraints among their kid's friends, it's not easy balancing nutrition and fun party food choices.

While it's simpler for parents to stay away from the more infamous allergens like peanuts or shellfish, a lot gets muddled and fuzzy when gluten-free foods enter the mix. What exactly qualifies as gluten-free?

Like it's name itself suggests, gluten-free means no gluten, or a very low level of it. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, malts and triticale, a hybrid of wheat, and is used as a food additive for flavoring or as a thickening agent. So, you'll want to avoid foods like Jell-O or pastries. This of course, seems daunting when it comes to party desserts, but never fear!

  • Frozen banana slices dipped in chocolate and popped on a stick are a kid-friendly treat both in taste and serving-style. They'll love the popsicle idea for their fruit!

  • Skip the chocolate and serve a sweeter fruit solo on a stick if you're looking to err on the side of safety when it comes to sprinkles or chocolate. Just as tasty and fun, watermelon is always a favorite.

  • Birthday cakes are always a challenge if you're trying to make it gluten-free, but they needn't be so tough! Contributor Paula Biggs has a great tasting, festive and easy to make solution.

  • Light, airy and sweet, gluten-free chocolate mousse meringue cups are a delight to one and all!

  • Homemade cookies topped with a kiss are a delicious dessert, but also a fun way to get the birthday boy or girl involved in their party's preparations. Have them help out in the kitchen with these delicious and gluten-free peanut butter kiss cookies.

  • Parfaits sound and look fancy, but they couldn't be simpler to whip up. Parents at your kid's birthday party will appreciate this gluten-free dessert as much as the kids.
