Festive Place Settings & Custom Name Cards for a Butterfly Brunch

Pulling together a place setting is sometimes the most difficult part of putting together a party. But really, it shouldn’t be so challenging. Aim for a placemat, a plate, a napkin, silverware and a water glass and wine glass and your tablescape will look great!

For the Mother’s Day Butterfly Brunch, a few DIY touches perfectly accented our place settings that were created with discount-store plates. No need to buy super expensive dishes when there are so many great options at a low price point! Just find ones with a splash of color or interesting shape, and if you can layer them, they get even prettier to look at!

In this case, an extra large plate served as the charger and the bit of teal peaking out from beneath the shaped plate made for an ideal contrast. The butterfly on top of the DIY Napkin ring matched the plate, pulling the setting together! Don’t forget to use your water glasses as a place to add a little accent; another pre-made butterfly purchased at the craft store tied around the base of the glass makes the setting all the more eye-catching.

At our place settings, dressed up DIY name cards were used for a little extra splash of fun. Most craft stores carry these small frames in their dollar bins; they’re inexpensive and resuable for your next dinner party.

Supplies
  • Small frames
  • Lace
  • Ribbon
Directions

Since the frames needed to tie into the overall table, a few simple accents made them match. Lace edging on the runner and napkin rings inspired the name cards.

Just take a simple frame, and wrap the lace around a corner of the frame and glue the lace to back of the frame to secure.

Tie a complimentary-colored ribbon in a simple knot and place over the lace. On a slip of paper cut to the size of the opening, write your guests’ names and put in the frame.
