Fun Summer Craft: DIY Popcorn Sun

Soak up some summer rays with this cute and easy craft! We're taking delicious popcorn from The Popcorn Factory, and getting creative with this fun summer DIY. It's perfect to keep the kids busy during those long summer days — just be sure to order enough to craft with, and enough to eat!

We know how much fun spending the summer with your family can be, but there can also be a lot of downtime. Get creative with your kids by setting up this fun, simple sun craft! The butter-flavored popcorn at The Popcorn Factory is the perfect yellow shade for this adorable sun. With a quick trip to your local crafts store, you'll have everything you need to create a fun DIY that only takes minutes! Helpful tip: We used a hot glue gun and X-Acto knife, so this is a craft better suited for older kids. And make sure you are keeping an eye on everyone!

  • Piece of foam board
  • X-Acto Knife
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
  • Plastic Sunglasses
  • Buttered Popcorn from The Popcorn Factory (2, 3.5-gallon tins work great)

Step 1: Find a printable sun shape of your desired size online to use as a template. There are some great options here from DaTemplate.com

Step 2: Print sun template(s), and carefully cut to the exact shape.

Step 3: Trace the sun template on your foam board using a pencil or marker.

Step 4: Carefully cut out foam core shape using X-Acto knife.

Step 5: Using butter-flavored popcorn (for the sun's yellow color!), cover the sun-shaped foam board completely by hot gluing each kernel individually to the foam. Yes, this may take a little bit of time.

Step 6: Attach fun, plastic sunglasses (with sides detached) on top of the popcorn sun by using the hot glue. Ta da! Perfect to make into a wreath for your front door, or keep as a simple craft to hang in your home.
