Throw Your Mom the Perfect Surprise Outdoor Dinner Party

It can be hard to break away from the traditional Mother’s Day brunch. It can be even harder to surprise moms, because they seem to know everything! Well, we’re here to help you do both: not only is it possible, but it’s also easy to do if you have all of the right hacks! Check out our ideas, recipes, and crafts to throw the make this Mother’s Day the most epic one yet!

First and Foremost: Let Others Know Ahead of Time

Mother’s Day is a popular time for brunch, parties, and the like. If you’re thinking of planning a surprise dinner party for family and friends, let them know the date, time, and place as soon as you can so that plans don’t overlap.

Start with Crafts to Keep Kids Busy

Keeping little ones busy is essential to making your plan go off without a hitch; without distractions, kids can interfere with cooking and shopping, or accidentally spoil the surprise! Keep them a part of the celebration by having them whip up some special Mother’s Day crafts for mom or grandma. That way, they feel useful, but they’re not distracting you!

Keep Mom Busy

This is the time to delegate tasks for other siblings (or older children, depending on whether it’s for mom or grandma)! Have someone take your mom on a shopping spree, on a quick lunch date, and to get mani/pedis! Indulge her to show her that she’s really special. When she arrives at her party destination, she won’t be expecting anything!

Make it a Team Effort

Planning a surprise anything can be stressful, especially if you attempt to do it alone. If this party’s for grandma, give your siblings and your older children different tasks to get everyone involved. If it’s for a wife, get a little help from children, friends, siblings--even from us!

Keep Décor Simple, Yet Special

Since you’ll have to keep track of tons of moving parts, make sure that the décor is simple enough to set up in time, yet memorable enough to impress the matriarch! Whether you decide to go rustic, whimsical, or totally elegant, just make sure that you’ll be done by the time mom gets to the location!

Make Sure The Food is Perfect!

If you decide to cook yourself (or share responsibility with some siblings), make sure you include mom’s favorites, as well as some new dishes that she’ll love! Easy and delicious recipes should be your go-to! If you’re worried that cooking will be a disaster, let us help you out: Harry and David will be happy to give you a hand with that big meal! And yes--they’ve got wine and desserts covered, too!
