Baby Shower Foods: 3 Baguette Recipes

These tiny, yet tasty, sandwiches offer a modern take on traditional tea sandwiches that are so easy and inexpensive to make, you’ll be able to take the caterer off speed dial.

From games to gifts, a lot goes into planning a shower. Oftentimes the baby shower foods get overlooked either due to budget constraints or sheer busyness of the host.

Enlist a friend or family member to help you prepare these bite-sized baguettes just before the party, for fresh and flavorful sandwiches that are sure to please even the choosiest guests.

Provide clear labels for each kind of sandwich for any partygoers or moms-to-be who may have eating restrictions for a safe and happy shower.

Brie and Pear Baguette:

2 tablespoons apricot preserves

4 ounces Brie, cut into strips

1-2 Bartlett pear, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

1 demi-baguette

Cut baguette in half crosswise, toast lightly in oven if desired. Spread a generous layer of preserves on both bottom and top half of baguette. Layer Brie and pear slices. Cut into 1-inch thick slices. Serve immediately.

Turkey Baguette with Parmesan Medallions:

4 ounces peppered turkey, thinly sliced

1/2 cup freshly shredded Parmesan

1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper, and drop pinches of Parmesan onto sheet, so that they form small, circular clusters. Bake for 5-7 minutes or until lightly golden and crisp, let cool before gently peeling off parchment paper; set aside. Spread spicy mustard on bottom half of baguette, and layer turkey slices—top with Parmesan medallions and other half of baguette. Cut into 1-inch thick slices. Serve immediately.

Vegetable Lovers’ Baguette:

1 Roma tomato, thinly sliced

2 ounces Swiss cheese, thinly sliced

1 1/2 ounce mixed bean sprouts

1/2 cup cucumber cut lengthwise into thin slices

2 tablespoons plain hummus

Spread hummus on both sides of baguette, layer all ingredients and cover with top of baguette. Cut into 1-inch thick slices. Serve immediately.

Note: To prevent cut sandwiches from falling apart once plated, simply pierce with a toothpick or party pick so layers remain “pinned” together.
